CHED to strengthen industry partnerships to enhance IT education in the Philippines
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Thursday, Dec. 5, vowed to strengthen the partnership between the Information Technology (IT) industry and academe to better align the Philippine IT education system with industry demands.

“It is our commitment to ensure that graduates of our universities are industry-ready by aligning the curriculum with industry demands,” CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera said during the launch of CHEDX 2.0 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.
De Vera also underscored the critical need for collaboration between higher education institutions (HEIs), industry leaders, and other stakeholders in shaping the future of IT education.
“Hence, we launched CHEDX to bring together the IT-BPM sector and academia to strengthen the reevaluation of IT education to ensure that we produce graduates who meet current industry needs,” he added.
Annual event
Launched last year, CHEDX has become an annual event that seeks to promote curriculum alignment, cultivate industry-ready graduates, and establish partnerships between industries and higher education institutions to reduce the skills gap.
“We must expand our vision through strong partnerships between education and the IT industry, exceed expectations by redefining excellence in education, and exemplify leadership by promoting sustainability, gender equality, and accessibility for all,” De Vera said.
To officially launch CHEDX 2.0, De Vera was accompanied by CHED Commissioner Shirley Agrupis, CHED Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) Board of Trustee Member Jonathan de Luzuriaga, University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) President Bonifacio G. Gabales Jr., Asia Pacific College (APC) President Teresita Medado, and other industry experts.
The summit was organized by the CHED Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) in partnership with IBPAP, USeP, and CHED Regional Office 1.
CHEDX 2.0, a two-day summit that started on Dec. 4, featured a distinguished lineup of experts and thought leaders from the IT industry and higher education sectors who shared their insights and experiences to guide attendees through the complexities of this technological revolution.
CHED said the summit attracted approximately 400 participants, including 50 exhibitors from both the education and industry sectors across the Philippines.
During the summit, attendees had the chance to explore a wide range of cutting-edge exhibits and participate in discussions showcasing innovative solutions from academic institutions and industry partners.
