The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s economic empowerment through employment, social protection, and entrepreneurship at the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration in Bangkok, Thailand.
DOLE Assistant Secretary Amuerfina R. Reyes said the event highlighted the Philippines' ongoing initiatives to promote gender equality and address workforce disparities.
Reyes stressed the need for stricter enforcement of labor standards, measures against workplace violence and harassment, and enhanced childcare support in communities and workplaces.
She also called for increased investments in care services, financial backing for women-led businesses, and initiatives encouraging women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), the event convened government officials, civil society representatives, and private sector leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.
Discussions focused on the progress made since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and strategies to accelerate gender equality efforts.
The Philippine delegation showcased advancements in gender parity, maternal health, and education while also recognizing the persistent challenges women face, including the unequal burden of unpaid care work and increased climate-related risks.
