USLS-Bacolod chemical engineering graduate ranks 10th in board exam

BACOLOD CITY – A chemical engineering graduate of the University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod ranked 10th in the November 2024 Chemical Engineers Licensure Examination conducted by the Professional Regulations Commission.

Bobby Maravilla Jr., a resident of Bago City, Negros Occidental, obtained an 88.40 percent rating in the exam.

Maravilla, son of a retired civil engineer and housewife, said his path to his achievement was not easy.

“My college years were relentless, the path was not easy,” Maravilla said in an interview with Citybridge.

He was not able to march during the graduation ceremony this year.

Maravilla said that he did not graduate in a regular semester as he failed in the last assessment that defined his graduation.

“I took that chance to remind myself that even the best of us falls sometimes,” he said.

This obstacle allowed him to develop a reason to regain himself and top the board exam.

Maravilla said that pursuing a chemical engineering course was actually a last-minute decision for him as he was ready to become a seaman at that time.

However, he failed some medical tests to fully affirm if he is physically sound for the profession.

After reflecting on his skills, interest, and passion, and through his friend, who is also a successful chemical engineering board exam passer, he was convinced to take the course.

Maravilla attributed his achievement to his family. “They provided an environment where I did not worry about the repercussions if I failed. They provided peace and financial support,” he said.

Maravilla thanked the God Almighty, who permitted him to reach these heights, and gave an equivalent result to his effort exerted. “If I were alone, I would have broken down a long time ago,” he said.

Maravilla finished elementary education at Bago City Elementary School and graduated with high honors in junior high school at Ramon Torres National High School. He also graduated with high honors in senior high school at John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod.

In college, he was a scholar of the Department of Science and Technology and Menzi Program for Research and Training Scholarship Grant, an external partner of USLS-Bacolod.

Maravilla said having completed all academic requirements, he looks forward to marching in May 2025.
