Shear line, ‘amihan’ to bring rains over parts of Northern Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Dec. 4 that the effects of the shear line and the northeast monsoon (amihan) may continue over parts of Northern Luzon in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms brought by the shear line will prevail over Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Shear line is caused by the interaction of warm air from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies) and cold air from the amihan, which results in rainfall.

PAGASA continues to warn of flash floods and landslides in areas affected by the shear line, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the amihan will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Batanes.

PAGASA said the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to remain vigilant for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
