The Muntinlupa City government conducted a comprehensive communications training for the city’s truth advocates, a group of dedicated individuals serving as reliable sources of information, point persons in barangays and government offices, and content creators tasked to combat fake news.

The event was graced by Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon and featured Emver Cortez, regional director of the Philippine Information Agency-National Capital Region, as the resource speaker.

Cortez emphasized the importance of reliable news gathering and the critical role of the public information office in supporting the effort.

He emphasized strategies to identify and counteract fake news, ensuring that truthful and accurate information reaches the community. He also discussed the vital role of communication in effective local governance practices.

The training saw the participation of over 150 truth advocates from various departments of the city government, barangays, and national government agencies. Following the training, the advocates are now better equipped to support the city’s mission of transparency and integrity in public communication.

Biazon highlighted the significance of such initiatives in fostering a well-informed and vigilant community.

“In this age of information, it is crucial that we empower our truth advocates with the necessary tools and knowledge to combat misinformation and uphold the truth,” he said.
