Security guard arrested for indiscriminate firing

ILOILO CITY – Police arrested a security guard for indiscriminate firing on New Year’s Eve in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo province.

The Barotac Nuevo Municipal Police Station said the 26-year-old security guard fired his gun towards the No Parking sign of a business establishment in Barangay Ilaud Poblacion at around 11:55 p.m.

Police said the suspect from a neighboring town was drunk and does not have the necessary permits for his firearm.

The suspect is detained at the police station and faces charges for illegal discharge of firearm.

Meanwhile, the New Year celebration in Iloilo province was generally peaceful.

Iloilo police chief Police Col. Bayani Razalan cited operating units for their  achievement.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the men and women of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) for their unwavering commitment and tireless dedication in ensuring that the province remained safe,” he said.

“Their hard work and vigilance have been crucial in allowing our community to celebrate New Year with joy and security,” added Razalan.
