Iloilo logs 23 fireworks-related injuries

ILOILO CITY – The province of Iloilo has recorded 23 fireworks-related injuries as of Tuesday, Dec. 31.

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office recorded the figure from 6 a.m. on Dec. 21 to 5:59 a.m. on Dec. 31.

The town of Miag-ao had four, followed by the municipalities of Ajuy, Oton, and Santa Barbara and the component city of Passi with two each; and one each in Anilao, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Barotac Viejo, Cabatuan, Concepcion, Dumangas, Lambunao, San Enrique, San Joaquin, and Sara.

Twelve persons or 61 percent were injured by “boga” or improvised cannon, majority of them boys aged 10-years-old and below.
