'Exhuma' becomes No. 1 highest-grossing film in South Korea in 2024

The Korean horror movie “Exhuma” emerged as the No. 1 highest-grossing film in South Korea in 2024. 

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which tracks box office receipts, released the list of the top films in South Korea in 2024 based on total admissions or tickets sold. . 

“Exhuma,” released in February last year starring Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Lee Do-hyun and Yoo Hae-jin, grabbed the No. 1 spot in the overall ranking in 2024 with 11.91 million tickets sold, resulting in a gross of $78.24 million and revenue share of 9.64 percent for the whole year. 

In second place is actor Ma Dong-seok’s “The Roundup: Punishment” with 11.5 million in total tickets sold and gross of $74.77 million. 

Pixar and Walt Disney’s “Inside Out 2” placed third with 8.79 million in total admissions and gross of $57.41 million. 

Hwang Jung-min and Jung Hae-in’s “I, The Executioner” (aka “Veteran 2”) is No. 4 with 7.52 million in total admissions and gross of $49.24 million. 

At No. 5 is actor Jo Jung-suk’s “Pilot” with 4.71 million tickets sold and gross of $29.35 million. 

One notable entry is Korean actor Hyun Bin’s film “Harbin” which entered the top 10 at No. 9 despite that it was only released on Dec. 24. The film sold 2.75 million tickets and earned $17.83 million at the box office.
