Benitez orders transfer of community service vehicle in viral post

BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Albee Benitez has ordered the City Legal Office to reassign the community service vehicle linked to his office tagged in a recent viral post to a barangay for proper use.

Benitez, in a statement, said that he was aware of the viral post showing a driver committing a traffic violation and displaying unacceptable behavior.

A motorist posted the incident on social media to expose the driver who flashed the dirty finger while driving the vehicle without side mirrors.

These, Benitez said, do not reflect their values.

Benitez said that the vehicle issued in 2023 for youth leaders to support community services was clearly misused.

“We remain committed to accountability and responsible service to Bacolod City,” the mayor said.

City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu, in a radio interview, said that the driver of the vehicle was not an employee of the city government and it was not a government vehicle.

The vehicle has been retrieved and endorsed to the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office for safekeeping, pending its official turnover to the barangay for community service.

Christmas gesture

More than 400 Persons Deprived of Liberty at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangays Taculing and Handumanan here received Christmas gifts from the Bacolod City College under the “Simpleng Hiling Ko, Katuparan Mo" Christmas tree program.

Dr. Maria Johanna Ann Bayoneta, college administrator, hoped that the small token of support for the PDLs will bring cheer this holiday season.

Jail Supt. Norberto Miciano Jr., warden of the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory in Barangay Handumanan, said that the project aimed to give hope to PDLs and make them feel that they are not neglected.

Miciano thanked the BCC for their gesture.
