Baguio destroys illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve


BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the destruction of 4,300 illegal fireworks seized by the Baguio City Police Station headed by Police Col. Ruel Tagel at the Melvin Jones football grounds here on Dec. 31.

Magalong said these dangerous and unregulated firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices with an estimated value of P110,310 were destroyed to ensure that they would not pose a risk to the public during the New Year’s Eve revelry.

Tagel reminded the public of the dangers posed by unregulated firecrackers and pyrotechnics.

Magalong commended the BCPO for their unwavering dedication in enforcing the firecrackers ban under City Ordinance No. 53, Series of 2009/

The ordinance imposes a total ban at all times in the city of all kinds of firecrackers prohibited by national law and bans the sale and explosion of firecrackers and fireworks within the city limits.
