ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 on Monday destroyed P40,000 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices seized all over Western Visayas region.

PRO-6 director Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) led their ceremonial destruction in Camp Delgado, the PRO-6 headquarters here.
“We are intensifying our efforts to prevent any damage to property, injury, and even loss of life amidst the revelry as we welcome the Year 2025,” said Wanky.
These items were confiscated or surrendered to police units in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental from Dec. 16 to 30.
Wanky reminded the public to avoid using unauthorized or prohibited firecrackers such as “boga” (homemade cannon), watusi, piccolo, poppop, Five Star, pla-pla, Lolo Thunder, giant bawang, and giant whistle bomb in welcoming the New Year.
He urged the people to use alternative noisemakers to welcome 2025.
