Mayor Along tells village leaders to ensure safety of residents, strictly enforce ban on firecrackers

Caloocan City Mayor Dale “Along” Malapitan on Sunday, Dec. 29, ordered barangay officials to ensure the safety of city residents by strictly banning the use of prohibited fireworks during the New Year revelries.

“Bilang bahagi ng ating patuloy na kampanya para sa isang ligtas na pagsalubong sa 2025, inuulit ko ang aking direktiba sa lahat ng mga opisyal at tanod ng barangay na mag-ikot sa inyong nasasakupan upang matiyak na walang gumagamit ng mga ipinagbabawal na paputok tulad ng El Diablo, Judas' belt, whistle bomb, baby rocket, at iba pang kahalintulad na paputok (As part of our ongoing campaign for a safe welcome to 2025, I reiterate my directive to all barangay officials and tanods to monitor your constituency to ensure that no one uses prohibited fireworks such as El Diablo, Judas' belt, whistle bomb, baby rocket, and other similar fireworks),” he said.

Malapitan also directed the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) to take immediate action against anyone caught selling or using the prohibited fireworks in accordance with Republic Act. 7183 (An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices).

Minors who will be caught using fireworks will be turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD) for proper guidance and assistance as part of efforts to protect young people from harm during the festivities.

Barangay officials and tanods were urged to patrol their respective areas to ensure that prohibited fireworks are not being sold or used while CCPS will set up checkpoints and conduct increased patrols particularly in high-traffic areas.

Malapitan urged the "Batang Kankaloo" to celebrate the New Year responsibly, emphasizing that a safe and peaceful celebration is the best way to start the year 2025.

"Mga Batang Kankaloo, batid ko po na ang pagsalubong sa bagong taon ay panahon ng pagdiriwang, ngunit hindi rin po ito rason upang makapamerwisyo tayo ng kapwa. Ipagdiwang natin ang pagpasok ng taong 2025 ng ligtas, mapayapa at may malasakit sa ating mga kapwa Batang Kankaloo (Batang Kankaloo, I know that welcoming the new year is a time of celebration, but it is also not a reason to endanger others .
