LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – The Ilocos Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recorded damages from the 5.6-magnitude earthquake on Monday.
AN establishment in Ilocos Norte sustains damage from the magnitude-5.6 earthquake.
Ilocos Norte PDRRMO head Marcel Tabije said MDRRMO-Sarrat reported that the wall of the historic Santa Monica Church in Sarrat sustained cracks.
The MDRRMO-Sarrat also reported some cracks at the outer layer of the church wall and fallen debris inside the church.
MDRRMO-Sarrat officer Marvin Ganal recommended that the concelebrated Mass be temporarily moved to the church garden for the safety of parishioners. Ganal advised visitors and devotees to take extra precaution while entering the church for their safety.
The church administrator said that the church is set for renovation this January. The renovation is funded by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
Damage was estimated at P2 million.
Minor damage was also recorded in a shopping mall in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, in a government facility in Bangui, and a residential house in Barangay Baduang, Pagudpud.
Tabije said they remain on alert status and monitoring and assessment of damage caused by the quake are ongoing.
