“It is with a heavy heart that I join the people of Silay City in mourning the passing of our beloved former Mayor Gamban,” Gallego said.
Gallego said that Gamban was more than a public servant. "He was a beacon of wisdom, humility, and dedication to the community."
He said that Gamban’s leadership left an indelible mark on Silay City and his selfless service continues to inspire them.
Gallego said that he will always cherish the thoughtful advice and unwavering support of Gamban, who he considered to be his mentor and to many.
His guidance will remain a source of strength as we continue to strive for progress in our city, Gallego said.
Gallego condoled with Gamban’s family.
"Let us honor his memory by upholding the values he held dear and working together to build the brighter future he envisioned for Silay City,” Gallego said.
Former Silay Mayor Mark Golez also paid tribute to Gamban who he remembered as a remarkable leader.
“Today, we mourn not just the loss of a former mayor, but the passing of a visionary leader, a compassionate soul, and a dear friend who left an indelible mark on Silay City,” Golez said in a Facebook post.
Golez recalled that during Gamban’s tenure, he did not merely lead but also inspired, uplifted, and transformed.
The weight of his departure is heavy, and we are left grappling with questions we may never fully answer. But even in this pain, let us remember the joy he brought, the lives he touched, and the legacy he built, Golez said.
Let us honor him not by dwelling on his struggles but by continuing the work he began, striving for the Silay he envisioned—a city of compassion, innovation, and boundless possibilities, he added.
The 85-year-old Gamban was found dead with possible bullet wounds in the left and right temple inside his room past 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2. Police are initially probing his death as a possible case of accidental firing.
