BACOLOD CITY – A policeman is under investigation over the death of his 29-year-old nephew during a scuffle over a gun in Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Police Lt. Suzennie Ann Legada, administrative officer of the Escalante City Police Station, said the police officer was resting at home when he responded to a call for assistance at past midnight on Nov. 29 over his nephew who was intoxicated and creating alarm and scandal in the area.
The policeman approached the victim to pacify him but he allegedly grabbed the firearm tucked in his waist.
They grapple with the firearm which discharged fired four shots. The fourth shot, Legada said, may have hit the victim in the head, killing him on the spot.
The policeman with a rank of staff sergeant has turned over his service firearm and restricted to the police station.
Legada said that the victim’s family is awaiting the decision of his father if they will filing a case against the policeman.
The Provincial Internal Affairs Service is conducting a motu proprio investigation on the incident.
