DepEd public schools recognized for excellence in parol-making

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Tuesday, Dec. 3, that three public schools were recognized for their outstanding craftsmanship and creativity in parol-making.

Pedro V. Panaligan Memorial National High School (DepEd-MIMAROPA), Panabo City National High School (Davao Region), and Roxas City School for Philippine Craftsmen (Western Visayas) were the winners of this year’s National Parol-Making Competition, “Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin.”

The nationwide parol-making competition was a collaboration between DepEd, the Office of the President, and the Office of the Social Secretary.

“This competition brought DepEd’s communities together—students, teachers, and parents pitched in to showcase their creativity and talents,” said DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara in a statement.

“Our learners are truly creative thinkers, able to adapt to a rapidly changing world with ingenuity and resourcefulness,” he added.

The awarding ceremony of the national parol-making competition was held at the Malacañan Palace on Dec. 1, led by the First Family.

The ceremony was part of the annual Christmas tree lighting at the Kalayaan Grounds, which was led by President Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos.

During the event, the President, along with the First Lady and Angara, presented the first-place award to Pedro V. Panaligan Memorial National High School of DepEd-Mimaropa.

Meanwhile, Panabo City National High School from the Davao Region took second place, while Roxas City School for Philippine Craftsmen in Western Visayas earned third place.

The third edition of the competition, themed “Harmonies of Hope: Illuminating Filipino Resilience,” showcased 148 intricately designed Christmas lanterns created by public secondary schools nationwide.
