Marcos kicks off 2025 with Cabinet meeting preparations

President Marcos spent the first working day of the year in discussions with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, finalizing plans and priorities for the upcoming full Cabinet meeting scheduled for Jan. 7.
In a message to Malacañang reporters, acting Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez said the two officials were "comparing notes" regarding the upcoming meeting.
"The President will be comparing some notes with the Executive Secretary today. Iyong iba, private meetings na (His other engagements are private meetings)," he said on Thursday, Jan. 2.
In a separate message on Thursday afternoon, Chavez said the Cabinet Meeting will tackle legacy projects, big-ticket projects, and projects funded through overseas development assistance (ODA).
In 2024, President Marcos presided over two full Cabinet Meetings, two special Cabinet Meetings, and 49 sectoral Cabinet Meetings.
The President expressed in July 2022 his intention to conduct two Cabinet meetings weekly to address the country's problems.
His first Cabinet meeting was held on July 5, 2022.

During the 17th Cabinet Meeting, President Marcos approved the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) National Expenditure Program (NEP) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, amounting to P6.352 trillion.
Marcos signed the 2025 budget amounting to P6.235 trillion on Dec. 30. He, however, vetoed P194 billion in line items, citing the need to align it with the government's priorities that directly address the people's needs.
