The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 142 fireworks-related injuries nationwide as of Sunday, Dec. 29, with 17 more injuries reported in the past 24 hours.
This marks a 35 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The reported injuries occurred between Dec. 22 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 29.
During this period in 2023, there were 105 cases of fireworks-related injuries.
The DOH continues to remind the public about the dangers of firecrackers, especially to children and minors, as these explosives can cause severe injuries and even fatalities if mishandled.
The agency urged everyone to avoid handling or using firecrackers and to avoid individuals who are lighting them.
It also advised reporting firecracker activities in public places to the authorities immediately.
In case of injury from firecrackers, the DOH recommended seeking medical help immediately by going to the nearest health center or calling emergency numbers 911 or 1555.
