The Department of Health (DOH) reported 418 road accidents from Dec. 22 to 6 a.m. on Dec. 29, a 38 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Just in the past 24 hours, 68 new cases were recorded.

The DOH said motorcycle accidents remain the most common type of incident this holiday season, with 291 reported cases involving motorcycles.

In addition, 356 individuals involved in accidents were not using safety accessories, such as helmets or seatbelts.

The DOH added that 70 of those involved in accidents were under the influence of alcohol.

To help prevent accidents, the agency urged road users to follow these safety guidelines.

Always wear a helmet for motorcycle riders and a seatbelt for drivers and passengers.

Avoid driving if tired or under the influence of alcohol to maintain proper coordination and focus.

Follow speed limits and road signs for safe travel.

Ensure adequate rest, with seven to eight hours of sleep before driving long distances.

Avoid distractions, such as using a mobile phone while driving.
