11 hurt as passenger van rams center island in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Eleven persons were injured when their passenger van rammed a concrete center island in Barangay Domoit, this city, on Saturday, Dec. 28.

Police identified the victims as Francisco Manalo Barbosa, 69, driver; Stella, 5; Ivan, 8; Ellen 7; Mark, 4; Maria, 4; Bernardo Oriel, 39; Roselyn Oriel, 37; Shirley Barauilla, 39; Raquel Ortega, 46; and Rebecca Chavez, 70, residents of Barangay Guinaban, Ocampo, Camarines, Sur.

Investigation said Barbosa fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. and crashed into the center island.

They were taken to Quezon Medical Center here.

The victims were headed to Bicol when the accident happened.
