San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has opened a new northbound exit at the Maria Clara Road in its Skyway Stage 3 project in Quezon City to alleviate traffic congestion at the Quezon Avenue exit.
In a statement, SMC said the new exit, which opened at 6:00 AM on Saturday, Dec. 28, is expected to improve traffic flow during the busy holiday season and beyond.
"This exit has been long-awaited by our motorists in Quezon City, who now have a convenient alternative," Ramon S. Ang, SMC chair and chief executive officer, said.
He added that there will be no additional toll fees for using the new exit.
The opening of the Maria Clara exit is strategically timed to coincide with the long weekend leading up to New Year's celebrations, a peak travel period.
The new exit will serve as an alternative to the heavily used Quezon Avenue northbound exit.
The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has granted an interim permit to operate the Maria Clara exit after confirming compliance with key requirements.
"Considering the immediate need to provide an alternative route and reduce congestion at the Quezon Avenue northbound exit, the TRB grants an interim permit to operate the Maria Clara exit in the interest of the public," the board stated.
Ang said that SMC is fulfilling the remaining compliance requirements and placing road safety personnel to assist motorists.
Skyway Stage 3 is a major infrastructure project that connects Makati City to Quezon City, facilitating travel between southern and northern Metro Manila.
The project links to the North Luzon Expressway, improving mobility for thousands of motorists.
