Show-cause orders issued to drivers in Cebu road crashes

CEBU CITY – The Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) has issued show-cause orders to drivers involved in road crashes in Cebu during the holiday season.

LTO 7 reminds public that e-scooters are not allowed on major roads

Acting on the directive of LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, LTO-7 Regional Director Glen Galario signed five SCOs on Dec. 23 and 26.

The drivers who were issued with SCOs must appear personally and submit written explanations to the LTO-7 Operations Division regarding their failure to observe road safety.

Issued with an SCO was a 21-year-old man who allegedly fell asleep while driving a Sports Utility Vehicle resulting in a fatal Christmas Day crash in Barangay Langtad, Naga City, Cebu.

The incident claimed the lives of a six-year-old girl and her father and injured the child's mother.

A 61-year-old taxi driver also received an SCO after striking an 87-year-old woman while reversing his vehicle on Christmas Day. CCTV footage showed the driver fleeing the scene without assisting the victim.

SCOs were issued to multicab drivers involved in crashes that caused multiple injuries and property damage in Carcar City and Consolacion town, as well as a minibus driver who crashed into a house in Minglanilla on Dec. 23.

Galario urged motorists to observe responsible driving during the holiday season.

“Don't drive when tired. Don't drive after drinking or attending parties. You're not only risking your own safety but also the safety of other responsible drivers on the road,” Galario said.

All five drivers face administrative fine and accessory penalties are imposed upon their licenses.

Their licenses have been placed under alarm, preventing any LTO transactions while their cases are under investigation.
