“The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic incident of a Filipino domestic worker involved in the death of a Kuwaiti child in her employer's household,” the statement read.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” it added.
The statement, found on the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait’s official Facebook page, also promised cooperation with Kuwaiti authorities in investigating the incident.
It said that it “is also providing assistance to the detained Filipino domestic worker, within the framework of Kuwaiti law and in keeping with the Embassy's mandate.”
However, the embassy was quick to remind that such case was an “isolated incident and “does not reflect the character of Filipinos and the Filipino community in Kuwait, who are recognized for their hard work, reliability, and positive contribution to society.”
Reports on the Arab Times said the unnamed Filipino domestic worker placed the child inside a washing machine at her employers’ home.
The parents reportedly rushed to rescue the child upon hearing his screams, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
