PDEA inaugurates facility for reformation of 'drug offenders' in Guimaras

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has inaugurated the “Bahay Silangan’’ facility with the local government unit of Jordan, Guimaras as part of the reformation program of drug offenders.

In a statement, the PDEA said the “Bahay Silangan’’ is crucial in reforming drug offenders by providing them with brighter opportunities to become productive members of the society.

The PDEA praised Mayor Cresente P. Chavez Jr., Provincial Director Roselyn Quintana of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), members of the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) and partner agencies for their commitment to the program’s implementation.

“Partner agencies also delivered messages of support, pointing out the significance of government initiatives that offer second chances to individuals with the goal of helping them reintegrate into society as productive and law-abiding citizens,’’the PDEA noted.

“The event featured the unveiling of the Balay Silangan marker, the signing of the manifesto of commitment and the memorandum of agreement,’’ the PDEA added.

The PDEA said that the Jordan Balay Silangan facility marks the 78th center established in Western Visayas and the fifth in the Province of Guimaras.

Menwhile, the PDEA Region Office 6 also conducted a seminar for 103 persons who used drugs (PWUD) at the Tambak Training Center in New Washington, Aklan.

In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the PDEA Regional Office 6 said that the event featured sessions on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and business model canvas followed by a hands-on workshop.
