The 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal may be over, but some fans were still heartbroken when their favorite movies and idols were snubbed during last Friday's awards night.

Those overlooked for nominations include actor Aga Muhlach and director Dan Villegas for the suspense-thriller "Uninvited;" and Eugene Domingo and Gladys Reyes in "And the Breadwinner Is..."

Fans believed "Uninvited" starring Vilma Santos was "robbed" during the awards night. It only received one award: Best Float, which tied with the action film "Topakk."

However, Noel Ferrer, spokesperson for the Metro Manila Film Festival, assured movie fans that there was due process in the selection of nominees and winners.

"You may agree or disagree with their choices … but the integrity of each and every member of the Jury since we took charge in 2016, especially on this 50th Edition of the MMFF cannot be assailed.

"They have exhaustively deliberated and decided on the nominees and the winners from 9 am-4:30 pm yesterday Dec. 27) … No leaks, definitely no cooking show … Only the Jury Chair and the MMFF Executive Director knew the results, not even I or any member of the Execom.

"Rest assured, there was due process, and the judgment was fair and sound, and final!!!"

Nicanor Tiongson is this year's chairman of the selection committee; Jose Javier Reyes, co-chairman; and Sec. Amenah Pangandaman, vice chairman.
