MARAWI CITY – A 48-year-old farmer was gunned down on Christmas Day, days after he reportedly filed a petition over alleged flying voters in Pualas, Lanao del Sur.
Police Lt. Col. Juanito J. Jamis, Lanao del Sur police deputy provincial director for operations, identified the victim as Zainodin Sarip Guro.
Investigation said Guro had just arrived in his house from his farm when two men onboard a motorcycle appeared and shot him.
Guro sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.
A witness said Guro had no known enemies but added that the victim and his nephew filed a petition before the Comelec alleging the presence of flying voters in the municipality.
The witness said she identified the gunmen and believes the incident was politically motivated.
Police recovered four cartridge cases that have been subjected to ballistic examination.
Follow-up investigation is underway.
