Death of Negros Occidental cop probed

BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is investigating the death of a policeman in his brother’s house in Isabela town on Dec. 27.

Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, Negros Occidental police spokesperson, said the victim with a rank of staff sergeant was found with a bullet wound at the back of his head.

The victim had just attended a conference and there was no indication that he was distressed or had problems, his colleagues said.

Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental police director, has ordered the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Unit to investigate the incident.

No gunshots were heard and the victim was subjected to a paraffin test to determine if he used his 9mm service firearm.

“For now, we cannot conclude anything yet, while the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
