LTO has issued over 1,100 show cause orders since January

More than 1,100 drivers and motor vehicle owners have been issued with Show Cause Orders (SCOs) since January this year, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said as it emphasized that the immediate response and investigation on erring motorists is now the new normal for the agency.

Specifically, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the agency’s active monitoring of social media, especially viral road rage and cases of road abuses, is also one of the significant improvements in the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.

“Active social media monitoring, and even active monitoring of the traditional media, in our efforts to perform the LTO’s mandate of ensuring road safety is one of the new normal in the agency,” said Mendoza.

He said active social and traditional media monitoring resulted in the issuance of a number of SCOs.

Based on the LTO data, a total of 1,126 SCOs have been issued since January this year.

Of the figure, a total of 508 of them were related to the violations of the provisions of the Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, that include improper person to operate a motor vehicle which is punishable by either suspension or revocation of a driver’s license.

A total of 448 of the SCOs issued were related to the use of fake license while 74 were related to the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, 69 were related to the road incidents reported to the LTO Central Command Center while 27 were related to double license.

“This only proves that your LTO is now very active not only in responding to the complaints of the road users but also on our own initiative of expanding and improving our monitoring system against erring motorists,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza said almost all of the SCOs issued resulted in the imposition of penalties against those involved, including suspension of driver’s license and motor vehicle registration, and even revocation of the driver’s license.

“For 2025, our New Year’s wish is that we would issue fewer SCOs, or we would no longer issue any SCO because this means that all our motorists are now abiding traffic rules and regulations,” said Mendoza.
