After 25 years, the iconic 90s love team Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal will bring the magic of "MarJo" back to the screen, known for their classic films like "Hey, Babe" and "Labs Kita, Okay Ka Lang?"

During the film's official launch at the Mr. Monk Restaurant at Shangri-La Plaza on Dec. 17, Marvin and Jolina admitted that they still had to adjust on the first day of shooting.

"Ako, medyo nangapa ako kasi galing akong Lavender Fields, so ibang-ibang talaga siya. So dito paano ko ibabalik kung saan ako komportable. Kasi kapag gagawa ako ng project, nilalagay ko talaga yung sarili ko, pero dahil sobrang gaan ka trabaho ni Direk [JP] nakaadjust agad ako," Jolina said.

(I was a bit nervous because I came from 'Lavender Fields,' which was a different environment. I needed to find a way of doing things that I felt comfortable with. When I take on a project, I invest myself fully in it. However, since I was working with Direk JP, I made adjustments right away to adapt to the situation.)

"Actually hindi namin pinapanood yung mga sarili namin after the scene kasi we gave them our full trust and we love working with creative people that's why we have to let go, kasi yung acting na ginagawa namin ni Jolina ayun yung style namin," Marvin added.

(We don’t watch ourselves after the scene because we trust the creative process. We love collaborating with creative people, so we let go of control. That’s part of the acting process, and Jolina understands this. It was truly perfect timing for MarJo as the film was originally pitched to them in 2018, but due to the pandemic and conflict schedules, it was not pushed through.)

In 2024, their comeback film will showcase the charm of the '90s romcom genre.

"Natutuwa ako na kinikilig pa rin sila sa amin, nagugulat kami kasi despite na may kanya-kanya na kaming buhay, kaya I guess kaya siguro kami may pelikula ngayon dahil may nararamdaman pa rin silang chemistry," Marvin said.

(I'm glad they still like us. We're surprised because, even though we have our own lives, maybe we have a movie now because they still feel chemistry.)

Meanwhile, Director JP Habac, who is also a big fan of MarJo, shared his experience of working with both of them.

"Ako personally sobrang kinakabahan ako, pero nung first day ng shoot namin nawala yung kaba ko kasi tulad nga nung sinabi ni Direk Tonet, sobrang gaan nila katrabaho at sobrang collaborative nila," Director JP said.

(I was very nervous, but on the first day of our shoot, my nervousness disappeared because, just as director Tonet said, they are very easy to work with and quite collaborative.)

Message to younger selves

After nearly a decade in the industry, the chemistry between Marvin and Jolina has left a significant impression on both the film and television scenes. Growing up together on-screen and exploring new experiences over the years, Marvin and Jolina have shared an important message with their younger selves.

"Siguro sasabihin ko sa youngerself ko is bakit pa ako nagdadalawang isip kay Marvin na gawin bestfriend. Kasi ngayon ko talaga nakikita and nararamdaman na totoong siyang kaibigan kasi ang dami kong naikwento sa kanya, na hindi ko na naikwento sa iba. Okay siya as kaibigan may forever kay Marvin," Jolina shared.

(I might explain to my younger self why I'm still uncertain about making Marvin my best friend. Now, I realize and feel that he is a true friend because I can share things with him that I can't discuss with anyone else. He is a good friend, and what Marvin and I have is a lasting bond.)

Marvin expressed that having Jolina in his life was one of the best decisions he ever made.

"Ako ang sasabihin ko sa youngerself ko at namin, I think tama yung mga ginawa at desisyon sa mga buhay-buhay namin. Kasi I don't think magwowork kami kung nagkatuluyan kami but this friendship and trust we have ni Jolina, I don't think na pwede siya mawala at kunin sa amin," Marvin added.

(If I were to message my younger self, I would say that the decisions we've made in our lives were the right ones. I don't believe we would have worked out if we had stayed together, but the friendship and trust we have with Jolina are valuable and cannot be lost or taken away from us.)

The upcoming film is produced by Project 8 Projects and Cornerstone Entertainment. "Ex Ex-Lovers" follows the story of Joy, portrayed by Jolina, who travels to Valletta, Malta, to reunite with Ced, played by Marvin.

Her goal is to ask Ced to walk their daughter down the aisle at her request. However, Joy and Ced do not have the best relationship and are still angry with each other over their past.
