The local government of Marikina will hold its annual free year-end concert and community-based fireworks display to welcome the year 2025 with a safe celebration and attain zero firecracker-related injuries on Dec. 30.
Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro announced that the local government, in collaboration with the Office of Marikina City First District Rep. Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro, will conduct the free concert at the Marikina Sports Center and invited everyone to come and join and welcome the new year together as a community.
The mayor said the concert will feature performances from local talents, students from various public and private schools in the city, youth organizations, and special guests. He added that the event will be hosted by the dynamic duo Divine Tetay and Petite to ensure an evening of entertainment and fun for all.
Pre-show performances will kick off at 4 p.m., highlighting a vibrant lineup of Marikina’s local talents, including The Silangan Collective, St. Gabriel Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Choir, Marist Youth Chorus, Himig de San Isidro, St. Scholastica’s Academy Glee Club, and Infant Jesus Glee Club.
The concert proper will begin at 7:20 p.m., showcasing performances from Bassilyo, Sisa, Crispin, Lost Section, Daniel Paringit, and Mauie Francisco. The grand performances will feature Toneejay, The Juans, and Maki, adding an exciting finale to the evening.
Teodoro emphasized that the annual free concert is a way for the city to express gratitude to Marikeños, celebrating this long-standing tradition of recognizing the contributions of its people.
He added that these activities are organized by the city government, which aims to prevent incidents of firecracker-related injuries and damage to properties during the New Year celebration.
"Sa darating na December 30 ay gaganapin natin ang inaabangan ng lahat na year-end concert at fireworks display sa Marikina Sports Center. Ang taunang year-end concert at fireworks display natin ay tradisyon na dito sa Marikina na kung saan sama sama nating ipinagdiriwang ang bagong taon (On December 30, we will hold the much-awaited year-end concert and fireworks display at Marikina Sports Center. This annual tradition in Marikina brings us together to celebrate the New Year)," the mayor said.
"Ito rin ang ating paraan para mahikayat natin ang ating mga kababayan na huwag nang gumamit ng mga delikadong paputok sa bagong taon para maiwasan ang mga firecracker-related injuries (This is also our way of encouraging our fellow citizens to avoid using dangerous firecrackers during the New Year to prevent firecracker-related injuries)," Teodoro added.
Meanwhile, the local government has already designated firecracker zones such as open spaces and parks.
Teodoro noted that the free concert is also open to non-residents of Marikina, saying residents from the city's neighboring areas such as Pasig City, Quezon City, and Rizal can also enjoy the free concert and fireworks display.
Aside from the year-end event, the attendees could also visit the Marikina Christmas Shoe Bazaar and Banchetto at the Freedom Park, in front of the City Hall near the Sports Center.
"Ipagdiwang natin ang tagumpay ng taong 2024 at salubungin ang taong 2025 ng sama-sama at puno ng pag-asa (Let us celebrate the success of 2024 and welcome 2025 together, filled with hope),” Teodoro remarked.
