DAVAO CITY – The first Duterte 2025 Inter-Barangay Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Volleyball and Basketball Tournament was recently held with action-packed matches showcasing exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and unity among athletes.

In the LGBT volleyball tournament at the Barangay 22 court, Barangay Dumoy emerged champion, dominating the field with outstanding teamwork and skills. Barangay 76-A Bucana was second, Barangay 8-A third, and Barangay 22-C fourth.
The Most Valuable Player was Juromar dela Cruz (Barangay Dumoy); Best Setter was Kent William Revamonte (Barangay Dumoy); Best Outside Hitter was: Fev Adrianne Olia (Barangay 76-A Bucana); Best Middle Blocker was Raymond Ramirez (Barangay 8-A); Best Opposite Spiker was Paul Emmanuel Panal (Barangay 76-A Bucana), and Best Libero was Armen Cabanban (Barangay Dumoy).
In basketball, Barangay 76-A Bucana defeated Barangay 31-D to win the title at the Davao City Recreation Center (Almendras Gym). Barangay 2-A was third and Barangay 15-B was fourth.
Most Valuable Player was Jacgab Rod Careon (Barangay 76-A Bucana) and the Mythical Five was Bret Torreon (Barangay 76-A Bucana), Lloyd Charles Nuenay (Barangay 76-A), Jemar Pojas (Barangay 31-D), Maximo Albinco III (Barangay 76-A), and Feb Kristoffer Suazo (Barangay 76-A).
The champion bagged P100,000 while second took P50,000, P25,000 third, and P15,000 fourth in the inter-barangay basketball and volleyball tournaments. The rest of the field received P5,000 consolation prize.
Rep. Paolo Duterte congratulated the winners and athletes. He said the tournament highlighted athletic excellence and emphasized the inclusivity and empowerment of the LGBT community.
He said that sports are crucial in promoting a healthy lifestyle among people, especially the youth, and steering them away from illegal drugs.
The tournament that started last month was the inaugural comprehensive sports event of the first congressional district engaging all 54 barangays and included participants from the two other districts of Davao City.
Duterte’s sons Rigo and Barangay Buhangin Captain Omar watched the championship on Saturday, Dec. 21, to express their support to the tournament.
Rigo congratulated all the teams and players. He said the tournament highlighted the active participation of the LGBT community and aims to promote sports development and foster inclusivity, unity, and community engagement across diverse sectors.
“This activity would serve as a platform of inclusivity, unity, and sportsmanship, bringing together athletes from diverse backgrounds to compete in sports, collaborate, and celebrate the power of community,” Rigo said.
Omar congratulated participating barangays and said athletes and spectators celebrated the event as a milestone in fostering camaraderie and breaking barriers through sports. He urged the youth to participate in sports besides their studies.
