A five-year-old boy died while a six-year-old child was injured after being hit by a taxicab on Dalias St. in Barangay 187, San Jose, Caloocan City, on Thursday, Dec. 26.
Personnel from the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) identified the driver of the taxi as Christopher Corpuz Cacho, 42.
Based on the police report, Cacho's taxi was traversing Dalia Street when it veered off course and struck the two victims who were both sitting on the edge of the road.
The victims, identified as “Isma,” 5, and “JC,” 6, are both residents of Cattleya Street, Barangay 187, Caloocan City.
Police said the two victims both suffered severe injuries and they were rushed to Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital by their relatives.
Isma succumbed to his injuries, while JC is currently recovering.
Cacho, a resident of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, is now under police custody.
Police said appropriate charges will be filed against the taxi driver at Caloocan City Judicial Office.
Police said the grieving mothers of the victims, Ivy Espina and Jamaica Pascual, expressed called for justice for their children.
Meanwhile, Community leaders and safety advocates have once again called for stricter road measures to ensure the safety of pedestrians, particularly children, in residential areas.
