The Muntinlupa Police seized more “boga,” firecrackers and modified mufflers as they stepped up their campaign against these in accordance with two ordinances. 

The use of “boga,” an improvised cannon made of PVC or tin cans and PET bottles, and also called “lantaka,”  has increased among the youth. 

In a report by the Muntinlupa Police, from Dec. 23 to 25, they seized 100 pieces of “boga” worth P5,000 in Barangays Tunasan, Putatan, Alabang, Sucat, and Poblacion.

They also confiscated 400 pieces of Piccolo in Putatan and Poblacion, and 100 pieces of Five Star in Poblacion amounting to P5,000. 

In addition, the police also seized 43 modified mufflers. 

On Dec. 26, Col. Robert Domingo, Muntinlupa Police chief, held a dialogue with the leaders of motorcycle riders and force multipliers. 

He discussed the strict implementation of Muntinlupa City Ordinance No. 14-092, which prohibits “the manufacture, display, sale, distribution, possession or use of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices and such other similar devices and the exploding of firecrackers or other similar explosives within the territorial jurisdiction of Muntinlupa City.”

Domingo also talked about the campaign against modified mufflers and pipes, and any illegal vehicle modification in Muntinlupa. 

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon reminded the public of the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices, and the use of modified mufflers and pipes. 

The use of modified mufflers and open pipes is also prohibited under the Muntinlupa Traffic Code or City Ordinance No. 04-022. 

Section 85 of the ordinance on Mufflers and Noise Controlling Devices states that “no person shall operate a motor vehicle on a street unless such motor vehicle is equipped, at all times, with a muffler or mufflers in constant operation and of sufficient capacity for the motor, and equipped with an exhaust system to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke and unusual noise.”
