Year-ender: Survey reveals Korean stars with the ‘worst manners” in 2024

Who are the Korean stars who had the “worst manners” in 2024?

Korean media outlet Sports Kyunghyang is back with its 8th Raspberry Film Festival, the Korean version of the Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzies in the US, which names the worst films and actors.

Under the 8th Raspberry Film Festival, Sports Kyunghyang held a survey among 51 film journalists from major South Korean media outlets covering Korean commercial films released from December 2023 to Nov. 30 this year.

In the 7th Raspberry Film Festival last year, actor Hwang Jung-min took first place for the worst manners.

Each participant cast three votes in each category and selected the worst films, worst acting and worst manners covering actors, directors, producers and other filmmakers.

1st place - Actor Jung Woo-sung (22 votes)

Actor Jung Woo-sung was embroiled in an issue after it was revealed that he got model Moon Ga-bi pregnant but did not want to marry her.

Sports Kyunghyang reported that his image was shattered by the vulgarity of the DMs he had left on social media. Because of this, Jung Woo-sung was ranked first for worst manners.

Jung Woo-sung received 22 votes in the “worst manners” category for his negative influence in the industry other than interviews, the report stated. He was nominated for the movie “12.12: The Day” but it was a separate result from the film.

The report added that those who chose Jung Woo-sung criticized him, saying, "It's a world only they live in," especially after the controversy over the birth of an illegitimate child with Moon Ga-bi and the DM flirting with a woman, and the fact that he appeared at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards and received applause from some celebrities including Lim Ji-yeon, Park Joo-hyun, and Lee Jung-ha.

“‘12.12: The Day’ was the film of my life, but you ruined it. There will be no more reviewing,” one voter commented.

2nd place - Veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung (18 votes)

Actress Youn Yuh-jung (“Minari”) had her promotional interview for the movie “Dog Days” after winning best supporting actress at the Oscars.

Her attitude was described as “rude.” She blamed reporters for the death of the late Lee Sun-kyun and criticized them without reason. The reporters who participated in the interview were dumbfounded.

Some of the comments by the voters who selected her for “worst manners” were “What kind of logic is it that reporters killed the late Lee Sun-kyun?” “No matter how great an actor you are, be careful what you say during interviews.” “There is a fine line between honesty and rudeness,” and “Please be respectful and mannered according to your world-class reputation.”

In addition, there were opinions that she smoked during the interview and spoke informally to the reporters.

3rd place - Actress Jeon Do-yeon and the late actor Lee Sun-kyun (4 votes)

Actress Jeon Do-yeon was selected for the “worst manners” with four votes when she appeared on the YouTube show “Fairy Jaehyung” to promote her film “Revolver.” She was criticized with comments like "her stubbornness in accepting jokes that were meant to be funny in an uncomfortable way to the end of the world", "her bold conviction that she can't accept jokes while using Jaehyung for promotion is necessary", and "no matter how much you don't like the movie, if you're the lead actress, you should promote it with a sense of responsibility."

The late actor Lee Sun-kyun received four votes for “worst manners.” The reasons were, ““Death is mourned, but it is a personal matter that causes harm to works,” and “tragedy is regrettable, but the atmosphere in which the cause of death is glorified due to excessive commemoration.”

Actors Kwak Do-won (nine votes) and Gong Yoo (four votes) were selected even though they were not candidates for the “worst manners.”

Kwak Do-won’s film “Firefighters” was released in December this year so he was out of the survey period.

Despite this, he was selected with comments such as “'Firefighters' was damaged by the drunk driving controversy.”

Gong Yoo was criticized for not retracting his past remarks during the state of emergency of President Yoon Suk-yeol, in which he called former President Park Chung-hee a "great man" and for implying that he was wronged, Sports Kyunghyang reported.

The four people who voted for him gave reasons such as "Gong Yoo, the 'great sophist' whom we do not want to share" and "Can't he just say that he is sorry and that he didn't know much when he was young?"
