American actor Jonathan Roumie, known for portraying Jesus in the TV series "The Chosen," gave his Filipino fans an early Christmas gift by visiting the Philippines for the first time last month.

In an exclusive interview with Jonathan at the Shangri-La Hotel in BGC, Jonathan shared his experiences portraying Jesus and discusses what will happen in the upcoming season of the TV series.

"There was a bit of pressure on me, especially during the first season, because of the weight of the character. While we were filming, it became clear to me that I was placed in this position for a reason beyond my own choice. I did my best and let God take care of the rest," Jonathan said.

The Chosen is the first multi-season series depicting the life of Jesus from the perspective of those who knew Him, and it has continued to grow and expand in exciting and unprecedented ways.

The current season builds up towards the Holy Week, and the stakes have never been higher or more dangerous. What started as a crowdfunded show on a modest budget has gathered a massive following and become one of the top most-watched shows globally.

With the upcoming season in April 2025, Jonathan stated that it will feature more intense drama and emotional scenes.

In season 5, set to be released on Easter, fans will be astonished. The storyline explores the events of Holy Week, taking place from Palm Sunday to Holy Thursday night.

"It's a crazy week in Jesus's life and people are going to see the side of Jesus they've never seen before in the series, that I don't even know if it has been captured in other series. Nobody is capturing this story the way that we're doing it. So I think for me, season 5 is my favorite season yet," Jonathan said.

As the longest-serving actor on "The Chosen," he stated that fan support gives them the strength to continue the show.

"The fans have been just so lovely and generous, their appreciation and love for the show, it's been overwhelming. We couldn't have done the show without the fans," he said.

Jonathan's commitment to embodying the message of Jesus continues even after the cameras stop rolling. He has actively supported various humanitarian causes, using his platform to advocate for faith-based initiatives and charitable work.

The Christmas Special comes along with inspiring narratives from the filmmakers and stirring musical performances by world-renowned father-son duo Andrea and Matthew Bocelli. Local band The Feast Worship was also part of the Christmas special.
