“We want Internally Displaced Persons to feel the spirit of Christmas despite this challenging time for them,” said Erlyn Garcia, chief of the DSWD-6 Disaster Response Management Division.

The DSWD-6 and the Bago City government led by Mayor Nicholas M. Yulo conducted the Adopt an Evacuation Center activity where gift-giving and fun games were held in four evacuation centers.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental led by Gov. Eugenio Lacson also held activities for  evacuees.

Lacson visited families in La Carlota City on Christmas Day and the provincial government sent food to evacuation centers in San Carlos City and the town of La Castellana.

DSWD-6 Regional Director Arwin Razo assured that the national government continues to serve evacuees even during the holiday season.

The volcano erupted anew last Dec. 9 and continues to belch ash.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Wednesday, Dec. 25, that Kanlaon spewed ash seven times between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
