Woman arrested for obstruction of justice, possession of M16 rifle in Taguig

A 32-year-old woman was arrested by the police after they found firearms, including an M16 rifle, in her residence and for allegedly allowing her live-in partner, who is wanted for murder, to escape in Taguig on Dec. 22.

Officers from the Taguig Police Warrant and Subpoena Section and Station Intelligence Section arrested alias Jessica at about 11 a.m. at her home in Barangay Hagonoy, Taguig.

Jessica’s live-in partner, alias Marvin, was the target of the warrant of arrest for murder.

The warrant of arrest against Marvin and alias Margarito was issued by Judge Mariam Bein of the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153 for a criminal case for murder. The two remained at large.

The police said during the operation, Jessica allegedly obstructed the arrest process that allowed Marvin to escape.

During the operation, the police found guns and ammunition in her home. These were a Bushmaster M16 5.56mm rifle (classified as an assault rifle), a.45-caliber 1911 A1-FS pistol, 10 pieces of live 5.56mm ammunition, a magazine for 5.56mm ammunition, a .45-caliber magazine, three pieces of .45- caliber ammunition and a rifle bag.

Jessica failed to present any legal documents authorizing her possession of the firearms and ammunition. She was arrested by the police and chose to remain silent during questioning.

The police will file complaint against Jessica for violation of Republic Act 10591 (illegal possession of firearms and ammunition) and obstruction of justice before the Taguig City Prosecutor's Office.
