The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Dec. 23 said rainy weather is expected to affect parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Dec. 24 and 25.
Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said there are no new low-pressure areas or storms inside or outside the PAR, and the country is expected to remain tropical cyclone-free through Christmas.
PAGASA attributed the rainfall to the shear line—which forms when cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) collide with warm winds from the easterlies.
The weather system is expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall over parts of Luzon and the Visayas.
On Tuesday, Dec. 24, heavy to intense rainfall (100 to 200 millimeters) may affect Camarines Norte, Quezon, and Aurora.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall (50 to 100 millimeters) may prevail over Isabela, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
On Wednesday, Dec. 25, heavy to intense rainfall may persist in Aurora and Quezon.
Moderate to heavy rainfall may continue in Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Northern Samar.
PAGASA warned that flash floods and landslides could occur in areas affected by the weather system.
