Imus-Kawit boundary fire leaves 120 families homeless 2 days before Christmas

CAVITE – A fire gutted a residential area at the boundary of Imus City and Kawit on Monday, Dec. 23.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Imus City told the Manila Bulletin that the blaze engulfed 120 houses.

BFP Kawit said the affected houses were located in Barangays Gahak and Marulas in Kawit and Barangay Pagasa III in Imus.

The fire was reported at 5:16 a.m., reached the first alarm at 5:24 a.m., and was put out at 6:58 a.m.

The estimated cost of damage is P250,000. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

In a Facebook post, Imus Mayor Alex Advincula said the local government unit (LGU) is assisting affected families currently seeking temporary shelter in Tinabunan Elementary School.

Kawit Mayor Angelo G. Aguinaldo, meanwhile, said the municipal government is providing aid to fire victims within their jurisdiction and urged the public to grant emergency teams unobstructed access to expedite the delivery of assistance.
