7 dead in van crash in South Cotabato

Seven passengers, including two minors, were killed and their driver was injured when their van crashed in Tupi, South Cotabato on Monday afternoon, Dec. 23.

Reports said the victims, residents of Cagayan de Oro City, were on vacation in Polomolok, South Cotabato and had just finished a wedding pictorial in a tourist site in Tupi before the accident.

Reports added that the driver lost control of the Mitsubishi FB van on a descending part of the barangay road and crashed into a tree.

The Tupi Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said all seven passengers of the van died at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries.

Passengers were either thrown out or struck in the vehicle and had to be extricated, authorities said.

Photos online of the accident showed the fatalities in black body bags on the side of the road. The front of the van was a total wreck.

The victims were unidentified as of posting time.
