A total of 47 officers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have been promoted.
In a statement, the BJMP stated that the ‘milestone’ includes the promotion of 10 officers to superintendent, 14 to chief inspector, 19 to senior inspector and four to inspector.
During the ceremony, BJMP diretor Ruel Rivera praised the newly-promoted officers for a job well-done, saying that “your hard work and dedication have earned you these well-deserved ranks.
Rivera also commended his men for their efforts in maintaining and ensuring that efficient services as mandated by the law are served in the bureau, especially to the persons deprived of liberty (PDL).
Recently, the BJMP was honored during the launch of the 4th Philippine Human Rights Plan (PHRP4) for its significant contributions in ensuring that people’s rights are enforced in its facilities.
The accolade highlighted the BJMP’s vital role in advancing human rights initiatives, especially for the PDL under its care, reaffirming its commitment to protecting their rights and dignity.
The recognition ceremony highlighted the collaborative efforts of Thematic Lead Agencies, Support Agencies, and Partners in shaping the PHRP4.
In a statement, the BJMP stated that it stands proud to be among those recognized for their dedication to fostering a just and humane society.
Rivera also asserted that the BJMP is committed in upholding human rights, adding its firm dedication in eliminating all for forms of violence “every day, every month and every year.’’
Prior to that, the BJMP was also accorded with the 2024 “Freedom of Information (FOI) Award,” a feat recognized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) for its excellence in the dissemination of valuable information of prime public importance.
With the PCO’s recognition, the BJMP underscored its commitment to fostering an environment of openness and accessibility, aligning seamlessly with the core values of the FOI program by being the top requested and performing agency in the eFOI portal with at least 90 percent closed transactions.
The BJMP also noted that its performance serves as a testament to the bureau's dedication to upholding the highest standards of transparency and accountability in its operations.
Organized by the PCO, the annual FOI Awards seeks to recognize the remarkable contributions of government offices in the executive branch, including government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) and state universities and colleges (SUCs) to the development and progress of the FOI program.
