2 fishermen saved in Bataan after boat’s engine malfunctioned – PCG

Two fishermen who got stranded when their motorboat suffered engine failure while they were fishing off Bagac, Bataan over the weekend were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Fishermen Giovannie Austria and Angelo Pilote were onboard the motorboat “Martina Leigh” when it suddenly malfunctioned due to a failed engine while in the vicinity waters of Barangay Binuangan on the morning of Dec. 20, rendering them stranded at sea.

Personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station Bagac immediately conducted a search and rescue operation after being notified of the incident by the Coast Guard Station Bataan.

PCG ship BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) was deployed to assist in the operation and by 12:09 p.m., the two stranded fishermen were rescued.

BRP Cabra arrived at the Port of Lamao in Limay town on Dec. 21, carrying the rescued fishermen.

Austria and Pilote were turned over to regional health unit of Barangay Lamao where they were examined to assess their vital signs.

They were confirmed to be in good physical condition and turned over to their relatives. 

Meanwhile, the distressed boat was towed and transferred to the care of Austria’s niece, Mr. Eugene Pascual.
