The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Cebu Provincial Field Unit and Oslob Municipal Police Station arrested the quartet around 10 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Casay, Dalaguete, Cebu.
They were arrested after the CIDG-CPFU and Oslob police conducted a parallel investigation.
The alleged crime happened on Dec. 9 while the girl was attending a fiesta celebration in Oslob.
The girl, accompanied by her mother, reported the abuse to the police on Dec. 12. She said that a group of men offered her a drink and later brought him to a secluded area where the suspect took turns raping her.
The case took a different twist when the girl died on Dec. 13. The girl was found with bubbles coming out from her mouth and was declared dead when brought to a hospital.
Police were able to identify “persons of interest” by reviewing security camera footage and interviewing some witnesses.
Police Capt. Jan Ace Elcid Layug, public information officer, said it was learned in the investigation that the suspects brought the victim to Barangay Poblacion where the abuse happened.
Layug did not confirm if the suspects and the victim had a drinking session before the alleged abuse.
He said further investigation will be conducted to check reports that there were more than 10 persons who raped the girl.
“We are still conducting further investigation because there were reports that there were 13 persons involved. We have yet to confirm that. What we have confirmed is the four suspects were involved,” said Layug.
Police said there were two witnesses who gave testimonies.
Lawmen said charges for statutory rape and homicide will be filed against the suspects.
