2 college students drown in Kalinga

PINUKPUK, Kalinga – Two college students from Cagayan drowned on a river in Sitio Buntoc, Barangay Aciga, this town, Kalinga on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 21.

Police identified the victims as Renz Cherlxon T. Mangulad, 20, and Mark Denver Bunagan, 18.

Investigation said the victims visited a tourist attraction in the area along with companions.

The victims swam on the river and reached the other bank.

They swam back but were carried away by the strong current and drowned. Their companions attempted to rescue them they failed due to the strong current as a result of rains in the area.

They sought help from residents who found the victims downstream. The victims were taken to the hospital where they were declared dead.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
