The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has urged establishments in the pyrotechnics industry to strictly observe occupational safety and health (OSH) standards to safeguard workers during the Holiday season.
In an advisory, DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma instructed regional directors to work with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, and local government units to ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations.
Citing Republic Act No. 11058, or the OSH Act, and related issuances, Laguesma stressed the importance of adhering to safety protocols in the production, distribution, and sale of pyrotechnics to prevent workplace accidents.
“All Regional Directors are hereby directed to monitor establishments' compliance with the aforementioned and other related issuances to prevent workplace accidents,” Laguesma said.
DOLE regional offices were also tasked with submitting a comprehensive report by Jan. 10, detailing establishments inspected for OSH compliance during the holiday season.
The OSH Act mandates employers to provide safe and healthy workplaces, particularly in high-risk industries like pyrotechnics, to reduce occupational hazards and ensure worker protection.
