BACOLOD CITY – A 57-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) died while saving his 12-year-old son from drowning in the sea of Barangay 2, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on Friday, Dec. 20.

The victim, a native of La Union, who was also a British citizen, had been in Negros Occidental for a few weeks where his family was for a vacation.
Police Master Sgt. Ricky Yanson Jr., investigator of the Sipalay City Police Station, said the victim’s son was swept by a huge wave to a deep portion of the sea while he was swimming during a family outing.
The victim dived to save his son but was swept away by the strong current.
The child was rescued by other family members.
Fisherfolk in the area reported the incident to the Sipalay Rescue Team.
The victim was recovered but was declared dead in a hospital.
