NAIA braces for busiest holiday travel season with projected 2.3-million passengers

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) operator is preparing for a surge in travelers this holiday season, with passenger numbers expected to exceed those recorded during Undas and the same period in 2023 due to increased travel demand.

In a statement on Saturday, Dec. 21, Ramon S. Ang, New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) president, said the company anticipates 2.296 million passengers to pass through its terminals from Dec. 20 to Jan. 3, an 11 percent increase from the comparable period last year.

"Christmas is a time for connecting with family, friends, and loved ones, and while this is one of the busiest seasons for NAIA, we are working hard to make the experience as safe and comfortable as possible for all passengers," Ang said.

To ensure smooth operations, NNIC has coordinated with key stakeholders, including the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and other relevant agencies.

NNIC added that the company has also been working closely with airline companies to ensure sufficient check-in counters are operational earlier than usual to reduce queuing times.

Since taking over management of NAIA 90 days ago, NNIC has implemented several improvements to enhance the passenger experience.

These include expanded curbside areas, a centralized transport hub at Terminal 3, improved air conditioning, upgraded Wi-Fi services, and increased seating and trolleys.

To further add to the festive atmosphere, NNIC has launched the NAIA "Fly and Win" Promo, offering passengers the chance to win luxury vehicles.

The promo runs from Dec. 16, 2024, to Jan. 15, 2025, with a 2024 BMW X5 for one international passenger and a 2024 BMW 3 Series Sedan for one domestic passenger as prizes.

Passengers can join by scanning a QR code displayed throughout the airport, and each flight to or from NAIA earns them one e-ticket entry.

"This is our way of making the season extra special and thanking our passengers for their continued support," Ang added.

NNIC encourages passengers to arrive early for their flights and check for updates directly with their airline.

"We thank the public for their continued trust in NAIA as we work to provide a welcoming experience that reflects the joy and warmth of the holiday season," Ang noted.
