Police identified the victims as lawyer Vidzfar Amil, 51, Comelec-Sulu provincial supervisor, and his brother Naser Amil, 57.

Investigation said the Amils were on board a Sports Utility Vehicle near their home in Barangay Santa Maria when gunmen riding a motorcycle appeared and shot them.

Three bullets entered the rear of the vehicle, one of which wounded Naser, who was reportedly sitting at the back, in the head.

Their driver drove to a hospital here where Naser is being treated for a bullet wound.  Their car sustained damage.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation and investigating if the incident is related to Vidzfar’s work at the poll body.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia condemned the incident and urged authorities to conduct an immediate investigation.

The shooting came as the country prepares for the mid-term elections in May.
