Celebrity photographer BJ Pascual has recalled a stressful encounter with the team of Filipino R&B singer Denise Julia, who allegedly canceled a last-minute photo shoot.
BJ revealed details during a guest appearance on episode 15 of Killa Kush's podcast entitled "BJ Pascual spills tea" uploaded on YouTube on Dec. 20. The well-known photographer was responding to a question about the worst celebrity encounter for a photo shoot.
"Nanggigigil pa rin ako and kilala mo ito. Nag-guest na siya sa podcast mo. Sure ka ba rito sa question na ito? I'm very candid about these things," said BJ. "This really happened."
BJ added: "Si Denise Julia. I have heard so many bad things about her. Kasalanan ko rin na I took the job.
"It was more like a passion project. The manager (JV) called me many times. He would message me on Instagram, and we would have a meeting. At that time, I was creatively burnt out for something new to do.
"I'm a fan of hers... her music. I love supporting young people. In the beginning, they want someone to shoot her lang, change her image, and level up lang. Favorite ko yung mga ime-make over, ganyan.
"A month later, tumawag sa akin. May bagong album. I said, game!' I was really looking for something new to do. I volunteered to do the album cover and the music video because I've never done a music video before.
"So I got my friends onboard even though they've heard many stories. Sabi ko sige na, 'Pagandahin natin s'ya.' Nakita ko naman kasi may potential, may igaganda pa," BJ said.
BJ said he hired her friend, Princess Barretto, a top set designer in TV production commercials, for free. "She's so busy. Ang babayaran na lang nila is manpower and materials. There is no talent fee. This is charity work na."
"This is one day before the shoot. Kasado na lahat. We booked Gamma. P80,000 yun. We're doing four sets in one big studio. So sabi ng manager ko, 'They want to cancel the shoot.'
BJ learned that Denise's team was experiencing issues with their hairstylist.
"Girl, this was already 10 p.m. Call time namin is 6 a.m. (the next day). Siya (Denise) 8 a.m. How many hours na lang before the shoot? We have been setting the set since 4 p.m.
BJ said JV, the manager of Denise, told him they could not really do it the next day. The photographer said he needed to pay cancellation fees for the studio, production designer, and the stylist.
"Biglang nag backtrack si manager. Why did I go with everything wala pa naman daw confirmation. Walang confirmation? Excuse me! This is the day before the shoot. Kayo ang nagpumilit mag shoot on this day.
"Ayun ayaw nilang ituloy. Ayaw magbayad. I was stressed because I was shooting until 10 or 11 pm that night for another thing," BJ said.
BJ told her manager to cancel the shoot of Denise. "Okay, ako na ang magbabayad. I paid for everything." He decided to call a movie star to schedule a photoshoot.
"Magshoot na lang tayo ng iba. May ibang mas deserve ng ganda rito. Sayang kasi ang ganda ng mga set. Sarah (Lahbati) has been wanting to shoot pero never kami nagkaroon ng time to shoot together.
"So I called, 'Busy ka ba tomorrow?' She said, 'Yeah.' She's going to split na lang with me yung costs," said BJ. "Yes, she did four sets."
BJ added: "Nahihiya ako sa mga taong naabala. Yung bayad na yun pa thank you na lang sa kanila kasi for the time and effort. Everyone wanted you to look good. Pero at least may nagawa pa rin kami."
"After that, I never heard from her. No sorry, no thank you for everything. No, what happened?" BJ also said.
BJ mentioned that he would send her a text and would respond two days later.
