Gary Valenciano's concert cuts short after he vomited eight times before the show
At a glance
Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano had to cut short his concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Araneta City on Friday, Dec. 20, after vomiting eight times before the show.
This was revealed by Angeli Pangilinan, Gary's wife, in a series of Facebook posts.
Angeli declared that her husband was safe, stating he was dehydrated. In her first post, Angeli mentioned that Gary had vomited before the show.
"He ingested something and vomited so many times in the last two hours. He wasn’t sure he could do this concert. The doctors were backstage, and he had an IV … and he said he wanted to do it! But he has since sung six songs.. changing the repertoire … please continue to pray."
Angeli later expressed her gratitude to fans after doctors confirmed that Gary was safe.
"Don’t worry guys. Gary is ok… just dehydrated. He vomited about 8 times today. But am here with him and he’s just weak. A Type 1 diabetic goes through serious medical issues and we couldn’t afford what we call diabetic ketoacidosis so we are making sure he balances everything in a while. To the fans… thank you ! God is good. We love you all," she said.
Angeli mentioned that Gary was dehydrated, but his vital signs were stable.
"He’s okay everyone! Good vitals, alive, strong heart, and just a tad bit dehydrated!!! Blood pressure is normal so is blood sugar. God is good!!!!
"Thank you to everyone who watched the show, prayed for us …and to Lifeline 16-911 for being there for us!!! And to my first cousin Dr. Chad Hizon thank you so much for being there for us!!!! The cast and the crew, Regine, Maymay, Rayver BGYO, Ice … and to our family Paolo, Gab, Kiana … Love you all so much!"
Before Gary V left the stage, he sang his inspirational hit "Take Me Out of the Dark."
"Kawawa naman si Gary. Wobbly na siya tumayo. Yung mga tao nagiiyakan na," a concertgoer wrote on social media.
Gary V staged his concert dubbed "Pure Energy: One More Time" at the Big Dome where he performed his first major solo concert 40 years ago. The second show will be held on Dec. 22.
Goodbye to larger venues
During an interview In March, Gary revealed that 2024 would be the last time he would perform solo in larger venues to embrace new ways of connecting with fans.
But this is not a goodbye concert, Gary reiterated.
"I'm also human. I'm 59. Kunyari hindi ganyan ang title, 'One Last Time,' the next time I would do a concert in a coliseum or arena, it will probably be in two years. I'll be 61 by then. I don't want the people to put their hands together and say, 'Magaling pero humihina na siya, no? Hingal na hingal na siya pero magaling!' Ayokong umabot ng ganun," said Gary.
The OPM icon added: "And my body is feeling that, especially in big stages. Kasi iba yung dynamic in a school or in an auditorium of 2,000 people. But with 10,000 people, it's not that easy. It has nothing to do with health. My health is really good. It's just knowing when it's time to move on.
"So, I'm not retiring. I will still be performing concerts. Let's say the Manila Bulletin or the Philippine Star would invite me to perform, tara! ABS-CBN, GMA Network, let's go! Would you like to invite me? Game! Let's go!
"But if it's in a big venue, only people who perform in big venues will understand what it takes to do something like that. So I call it 'One Last Time' because I want it to be the last big, solo, hataw na, all-out show. It has to end here, but I can enjoy intimate shows," Gary said.
